The Loy Krathong Festival, known as the lights festival, falls on the full moon of the 12th month of the lunar calendar.
This year, the Loy Krathong Festival falls on Monday, 11 November. Loy Krathong is a good example of a well-preserved local tradition and is recommended for international visitors, who will be able to not only observe but also experience the traditions and celebrations.
The Peninsula Bangkok invites you and your family to experience this enriching festival. The hotel is one of the best locations in Bangkok to celebrate and embrace this culture, as it is located on the riverside of the Chao Phraya River. To honour these traditions, the long drum procession and krathong-making competition are held annually during the afternoon of Loy Krathong Day while the beauty pageant, which aims to find Miss Noppamas - the symbolic lady of the festival - takes place during dinner. After dinner, you are encouraged to float a krathong on the River of Kings to complete your immersion in this well-preserved tradition.
