Algiers, 90s. Nedjma, 18, a student living in an university campus, dreams of becoming a stylist. At night, she slips through the mesh of the fence of the Campus with her best friends to join the nightclub where she sells her creations to "papichas", pretty young Algerian girls.

The political and social situation of the country continues to deteriorate. Refusing this fatality, Nedjma decides to fight for his freedom by organizing a fashion show, braving all the forbidden.

Papicha is the critically acclaimed first feature film of Mounia Meddour. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. The film received the Best Script, Best Actress and Best Audience awards at the Angouleme film festival, and it has been selected as the Algerian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards - Oscars 2020.
